Edmonton Newborn Photography - The Ultimate Guide

My Approach

Congratulations! Expecting a baby is one of the most exciting things in life.

My name is Daphne and I am an Edmonton newborn photographer. I have been photographing babies since 2009.

I love photographing babies and creating memories that will last a lifetime for my clients.

I have been photographing babies for years before I started my own family. It was a very special moment when I got the chance to photograph my own baby in 2014. I photographed my son when he was 5 days old. I was very sore, but it was all worth it. I have his photographs on canvases in my house and I show them to him every day.

Those are very special memories to me and I am so glad that I was able to capture them when he was tiny.

Two years later, my son is no longer a baby but I love continuing to hold and photograph the babies that come to my studio. I love what I do to the core.

My style of photography is emotional and touching. I want you to have memories that you will cherish forever.

Children go through so many stages and change so much over the years. My goal is to provide you with timeless artistic images of your family.

I believe in taking the time necessary for your family. If your children need a break or your baby needs some milk then we take breaks. You never need to worry about running out of time.

Custom photography is all about ensuring that your experience is positive and that all your photographic needs are taken care of. It is about getting to know you and your family so that the true nature of your children can be captured.

How to prepare for your newborn photography session:

Newborns are best photographed within the first 3 – 10 days, as they sleep more soundly and curl up easily. It is best if you contact me while you are still pregnant and I will mark your due date on my calendar.

Since babies sometimes come early or late, I recommend clients contact me when they are in labor to schedule their newborn session with me for a few days after that date.

If you already had your baby, don't panic! I do everything I can to fit in last-minute inquiries.

Normally, newborn sessions take about 2 hours, depending on the baby's mood, allowing plenty of time for various poses and for feeding, changing, and cuddling.

My style of newborn photography requires your newborn to be deeply asleep. I need to be able to move their limbs, slip hats on and off with ease, and this type of physical stimulation can rouse a sleeping baby if they do not have a very full belly.

Props?

I have a collection of bowls, baskets, blankets, knit hats and headbands that I will use during your newborn photography session. You are also, of course, welcome to use any of your own props.

If you have any family heirlooms, toys, hats, props, etc. that you would like me to use in your session, please gather them before we arrive.

We may not get the chance to use ALL of the items, but we’ll look through them with you to determine what will work best.

Where?

The newborn session will be taken place in my home studio on the west end of Edmonton. I do not travel for newborn sessions due to the amount of equipment and props I have.

How long will it take before I can see my photos?

The turnaround time for newborn photos is usually one week. Photos will be delivered via digital download.

You will have the printing right to my photos, which means you may print my photos from any photo labs.

What should I wear for my photo session?

You just had a baby and you probably aren’t feeling your best. But I think this is the perfect time to pamper yourself! Go have your hair and makeup done.

Looking super relaxed and at your best will make you feel more comfortable during the session.

This is an exciting time in your life and we want to capture all of that…so take care of yourself first! And feel free to tell your husbands that we’re making you if they need a little convincing!

As far as clothing? Keep it simple. Beige, cream and white all look fabulous for your baby’s newborn pictures! Cooler grey, black, blush or brown are also good options.

Throw in a little colour if you’d like, but skip the busy patterns.

I am also big fans of skin-on-skin portraits with you holding your baby against you. They’re so simple + timeless!
So if you want some portraits like this with your newborn, consider a strapless top or tank as an alternative.

Family and sibling shots are included and encouraged! Files are hand edited and delivered to you in high-resolution digital format so you can print and share them however you would like.

The next step...

Start out by contacting me by email.

I will make your due date on my calendar. I will keep some dates open for you the week before and of your due date.

It's important that I be notified the day you give birth so that I can get you on the calendar for the few days after you bring the baby home.

To book an appointment, please email Daphne at daphnebrandonphotography@gmail.com

Newborn session: $500

Includes 2 hours of photo time and 20 digital images via digital download. Family photos are included in the session.
